Question Is your web server software compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2005?

Answer Yes, all XCENT web server applications are built to work with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and later. This also includes alternate versions of SQL Server, such as MSDE and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. It is important to note that MSDE was a performance limited version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000. All XCENT applications would work perfectly fine with MSDE. However, due to the performance throttling built into MSDE, it was only suitable for development and basic testing purposes only. MSDE should not be used on a live production site. While it would certainly function without problems, it would be severely performance limited.

The new Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition removes that performance throttling limitation and can be used in a real production site. However, it is important to realize that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition does have other significant limitations; none of these limitations will impact functionality with XCENT web server applications. This means that for smaller scale websites, there is no need to use JET databases any longer. That even the smallest sites can take advantage of the additional performance and reliability of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition over a JET database.
