Question What is a Category Set Node?

Answer Category Set nodes control how featured ads/auctions are displayed within XcAuction Pro and XcClassified Pro. Say you have the following category structure:

   Sports
    /     \
 tennis  football
            /   \
          NFL  college

If Sports is the only category set as a CatSet node, then all featured ads from Sports and all categories beneath it (tennis, football, NFL, college) will be displayed in the Featured Ads/Auctions section no matter which of those categories you browse. In other words, all of the categories under a CatSet node share the exact same list of featured ads/auctions, and these ads/auctions come from all of the categories that are part of that branch.

Another example: Sports is set as a CatSet node and Football is also set as a CatSet node. When browsing the sports or tennis categories, you will see the featured ads/auctions from sports and tennis. When browsing the football, NFL, or college categories, you will see the featured ads/auctions from football, NFL and college.

If you set every category as a CatSet node, then the only featured ads/auctions displayed within that category will be the ones that were placed within that category itself.

The benefit of using CatSet nodes is that it can make a smaller site look busier. Also, it is a way for Featured ads/auctions to get more exposure. (the display of regular ads/auctions does not depend on CatSets; any ad/auction that is not Featured will only be displayed within its home category regardless of the CatSet settings)
