Can I use PayPal with XCENT's web server applications, such as XcAuction, XcClassified, and XcDirectory?
|

|
Yes, you can use PayPal as a payment option. To set this up, you just need a PayPal account. For more information on setting up a PayPal account, see the www.paypal.com site for more details on setup and transaction requirements.
Once you have a PayPal account, you just need to configure XUD in order to use it with our web server applications. The exact process of configuration depends on which version of XUD you are using:
XUD Version 3.x or later
Enter your PayPal information in the Card and Payment Types section of the XUD admin area. Be sure to select the Card Code of "PAYPAL", and enter your PayPal Email address in the Login box.
XUD Version 1.x
Within the XUD configuration, you need to set gbUsePayPal to "True" and enter your PayPal Email address as the value for the gsPayPalEmailAddress setting. Although this version of XUD doesn't come with a built in option for a user to select PayPal as their method of payment, you can set one up in the Card Types section of the XUD admin area) to include an option with card display type set to "PayPal" and card code set to "EMAIL". The card code setting is important to ensure that the user will receive an Email invoice when the admin sends them out
Once you have set this up, any user who has a balance will see a link to pay via PayPal when they select View My Bill from the membership area. Users will also receive an Email invoice when you send invoices through the XUD admin area. To make things more clear for your users when they receive this invoice, you can also edit the XUDEmailInvoices.txt file to include the URL for paying you via PayPal.
PayPal can only be used to automatically pay site fees, not other users. Users who win auctions or wish to purchase from classified ads must make their own arrangements with the the seller. If the seller accepts PayPal, then the buyer can certainly use PayPal to pay, but the site does not handle this final transaction.
If you are using XUD version 3.x or later, our web server applications also support the PayPal IPN feature. The IPN feature allows PayPal to automatically send your site a notification that a payment was processed and is in your account. Using IPN, your payments received through PayPal are automatically applied to your user's accounts. This eliminates any need for manual data entry of payment transactions when using PayPal. If you want to use IPN, your PayPal account needs to be Business Verified and you need to use PayPal's interface to turn on the IPN feature for your account.
XUD does not require any additional configuration to use IPN. A return address is provided by the application when a user is redirected to PayPal's site. If PayPal requires you to set something to proceed, you can simply use your domain name, e.g. www.yourdomain.com.
