What are the storage requirements for XcAuction Pro?
The current version of XcAuction Pro at the time this is written is version 2.5.1. This release is just over 5 Megabytes in size when stored on your web server. The actual requirements for storage space can vary quite a bit. This is very dependent on how you use the application and the amount of data that you and your users are storing per item. Since this can and does vary per item, an exact number is not possible. A good average to use is 20K per item when no user images are being hosted on your web server. When hosting user images also, this number can change drastically. It is reasonable to expect that each image should add about 30K to the average. If you only allow a single image upload per item, you might expect to average about 50K per item. If your users are averaging two images per auction, you should probably expect to see your storage requirements to jump to about 80K per item. If you allow multiple image uploads, we would suggest that you expect that you will average at least two images per item.
To create a realistic expectation for your own site, you will have to know what kind of traffic you will be expecting and have an idea of what kind of activity those users/visitors will be generating. Then you should be able to come up with a reasonable estimate based on the numbers above. There are a couple of important aspects to remember. One, we can only provide you with a general idea of what to expect. Since these numbers can change depending on many factors, your mileage will vary! Second, if you run a good site, your numbers will constantly change. It is up to you to review and determine your always changing requirements. Third, if your site sees drastically more traffic than you anticipated, these numbers will start to get pretty big. If you anticipate spikes in usage from time to time, it is best to make sure you are working with a flexible and reliable ISP (web host).
