Question How hard is it to upgrade from a JET database to a SQL Server database? I am not an SQL person and I don't know what is involved in setting up a SQL database.

Answer Upgrading from a JET database to a SQL Edition has a couple of obstacles. Configuring the actual application is very easy. Only a couple settings in the application will need to be changed.

The hardest part is moving the data from the JET database up to your SQL Server database. Unfortunately, this can still be a fairly complex process for many users that are unfamiliar with databases. An experienced SQL Server person should have no difficulty moving your data. You should consult with someone experienced with data migration with SQL Server to assist you with the upgrade process. If you are comfortable working with SQL Server databases, and have Microsoft Access 2000 or later and SQL Server 2000 or later, the upgrade process can be as simple as coping and pasting the tables using Microsoft Access. If you do not have an experienced database person available to you and are not comfortable undertaking it yourself, as XCENT technician can perform the migration for you as a consulting service. Contact XCENT technical support if you need to schedule a database migration with an XCENT technician.
